The Scottie Walkabout on 29 March marked the confluence of various tributaries, me landlubbers!

As well as the first day of British Summer Time, the Walkabout was held in the 10th month of March for Scottie Club UK. Yes, we celebrated 10 years this month!

So it was only apt to find a time-keeping keepsake of a location for another solid Walkabout turnout. Feeling a bit poetic tonight!

The maritime heritage of the British Isles was also celebrated at this gathering, as Scotties met under the monument to General Wolfe (how apt) overlooking the Greenwich Meridian, home to Greenwich Mean Time which divides the world’s time zones, and the Royal Maritime Museum, Greenwich. We also tripped over – not literally I hope – The Tudor Tree. It is considered Queen Elizabeth I tree. The monarch used to picnic inside the oak tree’s trunk! And her parents, King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn are reputed to have danced beneath this tree during their courtship. Now it lies on its side, but well preserved.

In total we had 17 Scotties at the Walk, which consisted of 15 who arrived in time, plus one guest Scottie whose membership is in process and was introduced on the walk by bonafide member Erica. Pennie was too late for the walk, arriving only at the end in time for a wee dram at the aptly named Trafalgar Tavern after the walk.

The weather was overcast but the rain stayed away until after the walk. And we also had a surprise guest – Stuart the Scottie Club member who has yet to join our walks – bumped into us at the conclusion of the walkabout. Stuart runs the Dandy Hound grooming boutique nearby. Both he and his sister have Scotties. What a delightful surprise it was for all of us.

Taking in vistas and a bracing wind, owners and Scotties were unfettered and managed the walk in around one hour.

Members included Bondy from Brighton, stalwart Archie from Ipswich and many others arrived for our quarterly London walkabout. We are delighted to also announce that our network of Regional Meeting Marshals continues to grow, bringing more opportunities for members to meet locally to their areas outside of London.

With thanks to Essex Regional Marshal Karen Randall for organising, we are sorry she could not attend herself owing to illness, but we are very grateful to Alejandro Rodarte for kindly guiding us on the route she planned with Karen in spite of some mobility challenges of her own. We are also grateful to Nicole for booking the pub for those who were able to stay behind to down a pint and celebrate Scottie Club UK’s first decade!

Below, you will find videos and a gallery of photos members kindly sent in after the walk. Thank you!

See you all in June for the next Walkabout!
