Those who came to Hornchurch for our Walkabout on 2 November will be left with an indelible memory of glorious rays of sunshine for our walk. Members will also remember that we had to postpone our autumn walk in October on account of a downpour of rain. Postponing it, while inconvenient for some, appears to have been the right shout!
Hornchurch Country Park is an old World War 2 airfield and played a significant part in the Battle of Britain. There are still bunkers and pillboxes there.
Last Sunday, there was no need for Scotties to take cover and instead they marched to the former military installation with much pride. Something we may wish to reflect upon today, Remembrance Sunday.
Now Hornchurch Country Park is a beautiful spot for wildlife, and recreational facilities, and a large lake. It’s a great spot for walking dogs or just for a long stroll to get some fresh air.
We all met at 12.00 by the visitors centre, Archie, Ted, Huxley and Pebbles, with their owners of course.
How lucky we were with the weather, and a perfect day for a Scottie Walk. It was also my first as a Scottie Club UK Meeting Marshal for the Essex region.
We took the path up to the Lake, lots of other dogs around all Scottie’s, nearly all well behaved!
Having a pocket full of treats alway helps I find. And lots of green fields for them to explore, and run around.
When we arrived at the Lake we had a photocall with all Scotties and their owners, Luckily no one went in for a swim !
Walking back to the visitors centre was leisurely and we found a slightly quicker way off the main path. A thoroughly enjoyable walk on a beautiful sunny November Sunday. Thanks for coming and see you next time!
