If this was classified as a Walkabout, it would have been the first indoor one. But our gathering last Friday was a very different one.
Members of Scottie Club UK – and many with their dogs – attended the Royal Kennel Club of Great Britain’s London HQ on 17 April 2026 to celebrate 50 years of Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme (STECS) and 10 years of Scottie Club UK.
STECS was created in 1976 to help rehome Scotties as well as support families facing huge medical bills. One lady gave us an emotional thanks to STECS for helping her stay with her dog who has diabetes. Scottie Club UK started in March 2016 as a social network for Scotties. While many armchair social media groups exist in the UK and beyond, few offer the real face-to-face exchanges which are the forte of our club, which began as London Scottie Club and renamed in November 2024.
Wheaten Scottie Pudding, who has been with the Scottie Club UK since its inception in 2016, was there as were many other Scottie Club UK members, such as Ted, Oliver, Winter and Onyx.
The luncheon also involved a tour of the KC building and to meet Heidi the photo archivist who said that the charity houses 3 million photos, some of them Scotties. Later we visited the library and Ciara told us all about the section on Scotties – which was lighter as seveal books were laid out for our inspection.
We were also told that Queen Victoria was a fan of many dog breeds, often given to her as gifts from the British Empire. We asked about her favourite Scottie, Laddie, but also no photos are available at KC of this fine canine.
STECS also held a raffle and a lot of chatting ensued. The 10 dogs were also well behaved!
Thank you to Cath Marchbank for arranging the event, and thank you to the many Scottie Club UK members who came to celebrate both important anniversaries. We are pleased to help each other’s organisations.
You can enjot a gallery of photos from the event kindly shared by some of those who attended.
