A busy Walkabout season is coming in October. But have you been putting off attending a Scottie Club UK walkabout?
One excuse people give is that Scotties are sofa dogs. While many of them endear us by keeping us company beside the telly, the fact is Scotties are like all dogs in one respect – they love and need an active and social life.
We have to take them for walkies daily anyway. So why not double that up and attend one of our club Walkabouts?
We know that a fairly large number of our registered members in the London area regularly give it a miss, and the saddest experience we have is when owners either move away or their Scotties cross the rainbow bridge and the owner’s feedback is “our regret is that we never made it down to one of your Walkabouts. We were meaning to…”
I have heard that said rather often. It is ironic that Members travel up to 150 milles to attend London walks, but others in the capital somehow never quite make it.
But it no longer needs to be like that.
In addition to well-publicised quarterly London Walkabouts, Scottie Club UK has been busy recruiting county-based Meeting Marshals up and down the country this year, to make it easier for all members to find a location for a Walkabout nearer where they live.
The benefits of being a Meeting Marshal is that you continue to run the walks autonomously, but you benefit from our publicity for your events. And it also means that Members who might live a bit further away but who would like to attend, can get to know about the walks and join in!
We have reviewed the scanner registration system. This will rarely be used across the UK but will remain in force for London events.
Anyone missing their Member ID card, known as a Member Tag and issued to all members, will receive them before the next walkabouts take place.
We very much look forward to seeing you on one of our Walks soon! It’s why we belong.
